Announcing: Philosophy Portal Live Events
Membership for 2024 gives access to four monthly live events designed to learn core concepts, explore ideas with great thinkers, and open new discursive spaces
Philosophy Portal is 2 years old! Throughout this time we have been focused on a certain design that serves a great purpose: teaching foundational philosophical texts oriented towards collective conferences and anthologies that can impact our larger cultural moment.
However, this design leaves largely unexplored the potential for more creative live event spaces. In 2024 we are going to try to explore this territory. Philosophy Portal is shifting focus to (also) becoming an event space for members. The events are a space to explore philosophy in a more open concept, with a focus on bringing leading thinkers and practitioners in the liminal web together with a community committed to philosophical reflection.
Each month we will host four different events, which are all different in nature, but that are thematically aligned under a similar direction. For more, you can find out about each of the events members have access to below:
- Concept Cave
- Is a space to learn and discuss fundamental concepts. Each month Dr. Cadell Last will highlight a specific concept from the foundations of modern philosophy and open up a space for discussion on how we may relate to or think with that concept today.
- The Edge
- Is a space to walk the razor’s edge of contemporary thought and practice. Each month a thinker walking the “razor’s edge” of a new idea or collision between ideas will be invited to share with us what they have newly discovered or created in the real.
- Thought Lab
- Is a space to learn from and think with a thought leader about our shared becoming. Each month a thinker who has spent an extended period of time mediating core ideas will be invited to help us think with these ideas and relate them into our daily life.
- Real Talk
- Is a space for free association and full speech inspired by liminal thinkers and living ideas. Each month a thinker whose life practice directly engages the real will be invited to inspire us to explore deeper parts of ourselves using the method of free association.
For our first month we will be focused on the concept of libido, with guest appearances from meta-shaman Layman Pascal to explore "The Edge" of magic and psychoanalysis, philosopher Alenka Zupančič leading a "Thought Lab" on contemporary sexuality, and psychotherapist Eliot Rosenstock opening a "Real Talk" about sexuality and therapy.
Philosophy Portal Membership gives you more than access to four live events per month. With Membership you also get access to office hours (details to be announced soon), community publications, discounts on recorded courses, permanent early bird pricing on future courses, and priority to apply for retreats (more details coming in the new year).
