Month of the Sacred
and a collaboration with the Center for Process Studies
We are two months into The Portal experiment. In the first two months we explored the theme of libido and the theme of communism with very special guests and a growing thinking community which is a joy to think with. You can find some of our public livestreams below if you are interested in getting to know some of our core members.
In the future of The Portal, we will likely be sharpening our focus on the themes explored in the first two months, but the signifiers will be changed from libido to sexuality and communism to community. However, this month we will be introducing the third key category: the Sacred (which will also be linked in the future to metaphysics).
For the Month of the Sacred we open a very special collaboration with the Center for Process Studies. At the end of March the Center for Process Studies will be hosting a conference focused on the work of Dr. Iain McGilchrist inspired by his most recent works "The Matter with Things" on March 29th through 31st. As part of this collaboration, all members of The Portal will have a discounted virtual access to this conference.
However, the most important aspect of this announcement is that the four monthly events hosted in The Portal live event space are being designed to prepare the member space for this conference. We host Dr. Andrew Davis, Dr. Ruth E. Kastner, and Dr. Matthew Segall for the Month of the Sacred. Dr. Davis will be in The Edge to explore "Human and Cosmic Value" (inspired by his book Mind, Value, and Cosmos); Dr. Kastner will be in Though Lab to lead a session on "Science and Spirit" (inspired by her book Adventures in Quantum Land), and Dr. Matthew Segall will be in Real Talk to free associate with us around "Politics and Love" (inspired by his philosophical work on Whitehead among other thinkers).

Month of the SacredAs mentioned, all members of The Portal will have access to the Center for Process Studies conference focusing on the work of Dr. Iain McGilchrist titled "Metaphysics and the Matter with Things":
Finally, we will also be opening up a book club at The Portal, specifically a book club that focuses on the work of those who have either taught or hosted an event at The Portal, and who we hope to continue thinking with. In the month of March we will be starting this book club by hosting David McKerracher of Theory Underground to discuss his book Timenergy: Why You Have No Time or Energy, which has just been re-released with a second edition including a foreword from Slavoj Žižek.
I hope you join us for what promises to be a great month focused on the Sacred.
