Summer in The Portal 2025

The Resonant Man, Philosophy of Theology, and Sex and Society

Are you looking for a good place to explore spirituality, philosophy, theology and sexuality this summer? If so, "Summer in The Portal 2025" is the place to be. The Portal will be hosting The Resonant Man, led by Matthew Green and Jacob Kishere, this July 2025; hosting Dylan Shaul for a month dedicated to the philosophy of theology in August 2025; and launching a new sharing circle led by Rebecca Rose Prentice focused on Sex and Society.

The Resonant Man is a men's work group built around the notion of "collective healing", and focused on cultivating the capacity to be in touch with subtle emotions and free speech in larger group settings. Throughout our month together, Green and Kishere will be in dialogue around themes of "Sex, Masculinity, God", teaching us about the art of freestyle and the role of rap music in cultivating the capacity for free speech, as well as guiding us into the world of collective healing, its methods, practices, and theory. We will be ending the month with a sharing circle focused on the necessity of both men's and women's work. I have a deep history with men's work, and I am grateful for my contact with The Resonant Man, for bringing this back into focus, as for the past few years I have been more focused on philsoophy itself. You can find the schedule below:

Dylan Shaul is a philosopher with an expertise in a wide-ranging number of topics, from Žižekian and Badiouan continental philosophy, to Derridean forms of deconstruction and French structuralism, to Hegel, Kant and the German Idealist tradition, as well as Plato, Aristotle and the classical tradition. This summer Shaul will be guiding us through a month oriented around a meta-theme of "Metaphysics Resurrected", where he will be exploring why the 20th century philosophical tradition aimed to discard metaphysics, as well as how the 21st century philosophical tradition appears to be reviving it. This exploration will center the Kantian break in modern philosophy, but it will also bring philosophy into deeper contact with classical philosophy and its theological presuppositions. You can find the schedule below:

Finally, I am excited to announce that Rebecca Rose Prentice, a long time collaborator with Philosophy Portal, will be launching her own sharing circle at The Portal this summer, titled Sex and Society. Sex and Society is a philosophically oriented personal sharing circle. It is a space to explore sex, gender, and the tension between the two through themes such as embodiment, identity, performativity, social reality, and politics. It is an intimate space for sharing and reflecting on personal experiences and how they shape and are shaped by the world in which we are situated. As a sharing circle, we aim to open a space for free association and full speech where participants can develop new understanding of sex and gender in their own lives and the world around them, without reducing one to the other. In holding space for that tension, we hope to allow for the non-relation between the two to speak, and in doing so, strive to cultivate the emergence of larger themes gesturing towards a greater understanding of humanity, society, and freedom inclusive of their interdependence and immanent contradictions.

Members of The Portal get access to all of these events. But if you do not want to register as a member, you can register and get access to the entire summer's worth of activities, throughout July and August, using the link below:
