The Art of Story Telling

The unity of good philosophy and literature

This May at The Portal we will be hosting Daniel L. Garner and Michelle Garner of O.G. Rose, as well as Holly Rhiannon and Pae Veo of Stygian Society for a month long exploration of the relationship between philosophy and literature. Throughout the month the connections between what it means to do philosophy and literature well, as well as their interdependence, will be explicated through four sessions designed to provoke you into your own creative journey.

The first event will feature a presentation focused on my new book, Real Speculations, where the core philosophy of Philosophy Portal will be unfolded in the form of the narrative or story that is informing this work.

The second event will be led by Holly Rhiannon and Pae Veo on what it means to do art authentically in the age of the algorithm. This will be informed by their work at the Stygian Society, which has the aim of reviving literature in an age where writing is being reduced to artificial intelligence.

The third event will be led by Daniel L. Garner and Michelle Garner, and focused on their new book Under The Wing, which is a collective of fictional short stories designed to provoke insights about the nature of the human condition.

Finally, we will end our month with a collective circle titled "Learning From Our Creative Journeys", which is designed to provoke thought about what it means to mediate our artistic, literary and philosophical processes.
